hmmm personally I’d save the thong bathing suit for home/beach rather than a public cruise! lol but anyway, it may just be that she wants to tan well.

Ouch, that’s awkward. I think there are a couple of possibilities. One is that she is doing something special that will catch your attention for this potentially romantic getaway (being away from people she knows may remove some of her inhibitions).
Another, unfortunate, possibility is that she wants the attention of everyone else. If you think this may be the case, you should tactfully ask her why she bought the suit.
You should also take into consideration any recent changes in her life that may have brought this about; did she lose weight? Is she having a mid-life crisis that is apparent in other aspects of her life? Does she have a new friend who is influencing her decisions?
Whatever you find out, if you are uncomfortable having her wear the suit, you should voice your opinion. Do not act as though you have the right to tell her what to do, just ask if she would do you a favor by not wearing it since it makes you feel uncomfortable. Good luck!
