How old should a teenager be to start wearing thong panties?

Elizabeth G asked: My daughter, just turned 15 and she hit me up about wearing thong panties. I told her that I felt that she wasn’t old enough yet. I mean, why does she want to wear thongs?RAYMUNDO

Why does ANYONE want to wear a thong??
    It’s just like a permanent-all-day wedgie.

Ask her why she want to wear thongs. When I was in high-school, some girls wore thongs with dress pants and skirts so they would not have a panty line.
Your daughter should not want to wear a thong to impress boys though.

**I guess everyone has their own level of comfort. I personally **** wearing them and don’t think they are comfortable at all.

tell her that wearing A$$ floss is so unhygenic …. Until my daughter turned 18, and if I helped with her laundry, I cut them up, every one. She thinks it’s cool, but it’s NOT

let her. i mean why not? if youre worried about something else be worried of that. its hardly harmfull. most probbably she just wants to be like her heroes on tv. i guess what im trying to say is: its a piece of cloth….

Actually, that’s about how old I was when I started wearing them. However, the only reason I did was because I had a couple of pairs of jeans that didn’t have pockets in the back and a few friends would pick on me about being able to see my panty-line. Back then I was pretty oblivious and that’s how I figured out what thongs were for, LOL! I didn’t start wearing them because I was promiscuous or anything like that (not saying you daughter is, of course! It’s just that that’s the reason a lot of girls her age wear thongs nowadays…)

Also, contrary to popular belief, they’re really quite comfy. The reason I didn’t want to wear them at first was because I, like others, thought they looked really uncomfortable (who would want a string up their **** all day, right?). But they’re really not as bad as people think they are.

If she really want to wear a thong, then I suggest that she starts at 16.
But seriously, why would anyone want to wear a rope for panties anyway?

I guess I am lost but what does age have to do with wearing those things? Nobody sees them, hopefully. So what age is the best for girls? idk

its a tennage thing and all the girls start doing it anywhere from 12-15. of course she proably wants to fit in and not get made fun of for wearing granny panties. i would give in and just buy her some nice cotton ones from victorias secret. and also some boy shorts!

You are Mom. Apparently you feel that 15 is entirely too young. I must say that I agree. I would say that 17 sounds about right. I say 17 because at 17 she should be able to buy them for herself. Until then she wears what is bought for her.
I see absolutely no logical reason a 15 year old would have to wear a thong.
Stick to your guns on this one. She is testing you for bigger and deeper waters.

She may want to wear them for various reasons.
If she wears tight/clingy clothing, there is nothing worse than having a panty line showing through!
If she is wearing them to ‘impress’ boys – Don’t let her wear them. When I was at school there was some little 13 years old wearing them, bending down all the time just so the lads got an eye-full. Needless to say most of them were slags.

She probably just wants to wear them because her friends do. Sometimes too, regular underwear are irritating. You can always see the line of full underwear through your pants. I was about her age when I started wearing thongs. I don’t think it’s that big of a deal as long as she doesn’t run around showing boys her thongs. Other than this I think it would be OK for your daughter to wear a thong.

I’m 21 and I think that 18 is the appropriate age. I personally think they are uncomfortable and I need full coverage. The only reason why I can see her wanting to wear one because all of her friends wear them and they think it’s cute, cool and ****. She’s 15, she doesn’t need to feel ****. Also girls these age tend not to know what they were really invented for which is the VPL (visibly panty line). Most that I have seen wear them quite the opposite. They like to wear them high with their jeans low. How this is a cool look? I don’t know…she will grow out of it. Maybe you can introduce her to the boy briefs or bikini style panties. They still give coverage but don’t feel like grannie panties.

Tell her that you’re uncomfortable with her wearing them this young, especially since she does not have any clothing that needs for her undergarments not to show (like a silk cocktail dress). Let her know that when she needs one you will get her one for starters (and make sure she knows the sanitary stuff too). Then take her to buy some more appropriate undergarments that aren’t too little girl (like a camisole set or matching bra/panty set)

I would say that it’s fully up to you, but however, my parents back in the day wouldn’t allow me to wear makeup until I was 16…

That being said, I would say 16 would be a good age, but it’s probalby for clothes.

Comfort depends on how thick the thong is, if it’s a narrow thong, they’re kind of comfy, but if it’s a thick thong, then yes, it does feel like and all-day wedgie. So get thin ones if you get them for her and advise her not to get thick-strap thongs, because they will feel uncomfortable.

Also, during that time of the month, it would be advisable for her to have regular panties as well, thongs could be a mess. Just an FYI.

My sister is about to turn 15 and she already is saying that she is going to wear thongs. The reason she told us is because the underwear she is wearing now she considers them to be for little girls.
I think that all these girls should wait until they are old enough to buy their own underwear. They should worry about their school work and not on what underwear they are wearing.

The proper age to start wearing a thong is the day you can afford to pay for it yourself. I will never buy my daughter one, but if she has a job and really wants one that bad, oh well, I can’t stop her. No one should be seeing her underwear at that age, so I’m not sure why your daughter feels she needs one.

Why anyone would want to wear one is beyond me. I’m pretty sure everyone knows I have a butt, I don’t need to buy special underwear to emphasize the point.

I’m sure she thinks she is old enough to wear them, besides she is the only one seeing them right. Probably not. I think it’s about time you started finding out just what is going on in that little head of hers. I think this is the start of rebellious teenage years. Do remind her that thongs may look very nice and **** but spread germs from back to front all day. That is pretty gross.

I would be more concerned with who she is showing them to rather than the fact that she is wearing them.

I’m with you, I have a daughter that turned 17 in Nov.
I wish I would find some thong panties in my house.

These panties should be reserved for someone in a committed relationship. They are not comfortable to wear just for wearing, i don’t know who came up with these over priced pieces of floss. . .but last I remember. . the strippers wore them for work.

Tell your daughter, when she goes away to college or gets married and is moving out, she can wear whatever kind of thongs she wants. Untill then. . .the bikini’s should still work just fine.

Other than no visible pantylines, there is absolutely NO other reason for a 15 y.o. girl to wear thong panties except for the ATTRACTION…and oh, yes, b/c all of her friends are.
Bear in mind, it is the teenage credo to always say, ITS NO BIG DEAL…even if it is a BIG DEAL. In the eyes of teenagers, adults ALWAYS make a bigger deal, out of any situation, than it really is. However, that’s because they are teenagers.
Again, except for the forementioned reasons, the primary reason a 15 y.o. wishes to wear a thong is for the attention it brings them when boys see the thong. Then they can act all embarrassed and innocent while the boys have their tongues hanging out. BUT, WHY do the teenage boys have their tongues hanging out? HORMONES!

Bottom line…with the exception of the pantylines, thongs are really all about ***! If *** gets the girls attention from boys, then that’s what a lot of insecure teenage girls will use. So while you are the mom and buy the clothing, you determine what is appropriate for your kids. My opinion….17-18 years old…if they buy it themselves.

Hope I don’t seem like an old fuddy-duddy. Maybe I am…but that’s my story and I’m sticking to it!

Basically, if you have any qualms about it – she can wear them when she’s 18 and living on her own, or when she’s 16 and has a job to buy them for herself…You are her parent, so lay down the rules!

my mom bought me some when i was 11. her explanation for it was if she buys them she can control what i have and she dident want me to sneak,

she bought me some plain ones while i was younger. when i got older and able to shop for my self was when i got to pick them out.

I dont see a problem with her at 15 wearing one. I remember how cruel other girls would be to one another about little things like that. If your worried about the thong, get her a plain white one or something.

If she wants to wear a thong, then let her. Who knows, she may wear them for a few days and decide she doesn’t like them. Take her thong shopping and get one for yourself too, and see what happens.

Who are you to say what clothes other people should or should not wear?

I personally do not like thongs, but if another girl wants to wear then that is upto them.

She probably wants to do so because of so called fashion.

Why not say that it is ok not to copy everyone else. The fact that wearing other underwear would be different and is another type of fashion.

tell her its just underwear no one is going to see it so why does it matter
